Yashaswini Singh is a PhD Candidate at Johns Hopkins University interested in health care economics, antitrust, and applied econometrics. Her research interests include policy-relevant questions related to competition and vertical integration in health care markets. In prior and ongoing research, Singh has studied strategic acquisitions of physician practices by private equity funds and their effects on physician practice patterns, including physician referral behavior. Her dissertation examines whether private equity acquisitions of multispecialty practices, characterized by vertical integration of generalists and specialists, incentivize physician self-referrals and the implications for patient outcomes and spending. Her research has been published in outlets such as JAMA Network, Health Services Research, and the Milbank Quarterly. Singh was named an American Society of Health Economists (ASHEcon) Diversity Scholar in 2022.
Prior to Hopkins, Singh worked as a senior analyst in the antitrust and competition practice of National Economic Research Associates (NERA) in New York, where she developed econometric analyses for complex antitrust issues, including the competitive effects of prospective mergers in hospital markets.
Singh has a graduate degree in finance and economic policy from Columbia University, NY, and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Economics from Bryn Mawr College, PA.
