HBHI leadership team member and core faculty Amit Jain, MD, MBA has been appointed vice president of care transformation for the Johns Hopkins Health System. In this role, he will lead systemwide efforts to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, consistency, and affordability of care across hospitals and ambulatory practices, partnering with clinical teams to identify process gaps, strengthen care standards, and support the implementation of models that reduce unwarranted variation and improve the overall value of care delivery.

Dr. Jain is an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, and business at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and serves as chief of minimally invasive spine surgery. His clinical practice treats adults with degenerative spinal conditions and children with scoliosis, and his research focuses on improving outcomes, safety, and value in musculoskeletal care. He leads international collaborative research groups, has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, and holds multiple National Institutes of Health grants.

Over the past two years as medical director of value-based care, Dr. Jain led system initiatives focused on reducing readmissions, improving transitions of care, and launching targeted quality improvement pilots. His work demonstrated how coordinated clinical leadership and data-informed decision-making can advance safer, more reliable, and higher-value care for patients.

Dr. Jain was also selected for the Presidential Leadership Scholars Class of 2026, a joint program of the Bush, Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Johnson presidential centers that brings together 60 established leaders from across the country to develop their leadership skills and pursue projects addressing pressing community and national challenges.
