Dr. Will Garneau is dedicated to caring for hospitalized patients, mentoring medical students and residents, and conducting impactful clinical research. His research is focused on applying real-world data to improve care for hospitalized persons with substance use disorders.

Dr. Garneau completed medical and public health training at the University of North Carolina and residency in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital where he is an assistant professor of medicine.  In 2023, he received an NIH KL2 Career Development Award and completed a master’s of health science at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2024.  

He has received numerous accolades reflecting his commitment to excellence in research and patient care. Recent recognition includes being named a Next Generation Scholar by the Center for Innovative Medicine, the Advancing Innovation in Maryland Award from the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission, and Researcher of the Year award from the Johns Hopkins Division of Hospital Medicine.  He regularly presents research at conferences including the American Society of Addiction Medicine, The College of Problems of Drug Dependence, Society of Hospital Medicine and AMERSA.  He is a 2025-2026 Center for Dissemination & Implementation Science At Stanford (C-DIAS) Fellow.  

Through his research and educational endeavors, Dr. Garneau continues to make significant contributions to the field of internal medicine, particularly in addressing challenges related to substance use and infectious diseases. His work exemplifies a commitment to improving patient outcomes and advancing the science of public health.
