Advancing a National Infrastructure for Clinical Trials
Melinda Buntin, Otis Brawley, Joshua Sharfstein
There is an emerging consensus that improvements in patient care will require bridging the gap between research and the practice of medicine through the implementation of more informative clinical trials with diverse participation.1 These studies can improve care directly, by answering key questions of importance to clinicians and patients, and indirectly, as institutions that participate in research may provide higher quality of care to all their patients not just the small portion who enroll in studies.2
